DRAMA

Drama and Theatre studies aims to develop your understanding of the theory and practice of Drama and consider the social cultural and historical contexts from which the plays derive.  Through the study of a wide range of plays you will gain a detailed knowledge and understanding of the ways in which playwrights use the dramatic form, structure and language to communicate meaning to an audience.  You will exam the theatrical cannon, and explore the impact the theatre has had on past and contemporary societies.

Assessments

Component 1: Drama and Theatre (40%)

Study of two set plays, one chosen from List A, one chosen from List B

  • Written exam: 3 hours
  • 80 marks

Component 2: Creating Original Drama (30%)

Process of creating devised drama and the performance of devised drama

  • 40 marks: Working Notebook
  • 20 marks: Devised Performance

Component 3: Making Theatre (30%)

  • Practical exploration and interpretation of Extract 1, 2 and 3
  • Reflective report analysing and evaluation theatrical interpretation of all three extracts
  • 38 marks: Performance of Extract 3
  • 20 marks: Reflecting Report
