Djanogly City Academy Sixth Form’s first students celebrate strong A Level results
Djanogly City Academy Sixth Form’s first cohort of students are celebrating a strong set of A Level results this year.
A total of 37 students sat A Level and Level 3 exams this year following the launch of the sixth form two years-ago.
The hard work of students and dedication of staff paid off with 23% of grades at A or A* and the top performing student achieving A*A*A*.
Students have received offers from a range of higher education institutions including the University of Edinburgh, the University of Birmingham, the University of Nottingham and Nottingham Trent University.
Students will be studying prestigious courses such as accountancy, biomedical science, engineering, law, mathematics, medicine, physics and psychology.
Andy Smith, Principal, Djanogly City Academy, said: “It is fantastic to see our first cohort of sixth form scholars flourish and succeed, and celebrate this major milestone.
“We are immensely proud of our students’ high aspirations, hard work and achievements as well as our wonderful A Level provision and dedicated staff that prepared them so well for their future careers.”
Beatrice Kruminyte, 18, has achieved three straight A* grades in biology, chemistry and mathematics.
Beatrice, who aspires to become a doctor and is progressing to the University of Edinburgh to study medicine, said: "I am very happy. All of my efforts paid off!
“I enjoy science and found that all of the health care careers were appealing, but medicine incorporated all the aspects I want in the future.
"Our small class allowed me to ask many questions and the support offered during my UCAS application process was incredible. The study hub and wellbeing hub were great places to study in. I am grateful for the opportunity to shape the new sixth form.”
Hajraha Hanif, 18, studied mathematics, further maths and physics and also achieved a strong set of grades securing an A*, A and A.
Hajraha, who is progressing to study mathematics with physics, said: “I am happy that I got my place at Edinburgh University. There is a big focus in the sixth form on super curricular activities which made it much easier for me to write my personal statement.”
Ionut Mocanu, 18, who studied mathematics, physics and business A Levels and achieved grades B, B and C, said: " I am pleased with my results.
“The sixth form is very good. I have found it to be very supportive,” added Ionut, who is progressing to the University of Nottingham to study mechanical engineering.
Based within Djanogly City Academy’s Sherwood Rise site, the sixth form offers 20 A Level subjects and opened in September 2022 following a £250,000 refurbishment.
The new facilities comprise 15 classrooms, 3 separate study areas, a library and careers room, reception area and toilet block.
The A Level subject offer includes art, biology, business studies, chemistry, computer science, criminology, drama, economics, English language, English literature, further maths, geography, history, maths, music, philosophy and ethics, physics, product design, psychology, sociology and the extended project qualification.
Students also benefit from personalised career pathways extra-curricular activities that help them to develop personal and professional skills. These include cultural trips, guest speakers, masterclasses and societies.
Djanogly City Academy, which is Ofsted graded ‘good’, has more than 1,200 scholars aged 11 to 18 years-old based at two sites on Sherwood Rise and Gregory Boulevard.
