Djanogly City Academy’s GCSE Class of 2024 celebrate

Djanogly City Academy students are celebrating another strong set of GCSE exam results and are looking forward to their next steps after receiving their grades.

 

This summer’s GCSE results highlights include further increases in the number of top grades including in English and maths.

 

Andy Smith, Principal, Djanogly City Academy, said: “We are so proud of our scholars and what they have achieved. It is great to see that their dedication, hard work and perseverance have paid off at what is always an emotional time of the year.”

 

He continued: “We have extremely high expectations of our very diverse school community. Whatever their starting point, our scholars have the opportunity to achieve at the highest levels.”

 

Around 210 students sat GCSE exams at Djanogly City Academy and they are progressing to a range of destinations including A Levels and vocational studies and training.

 

A significant number of students are joining Djanogly City Academy Sixth Form, which has just seen its first A Level cohort successfully complete their studies.

 

Based within Djanogly City Academy’s Sherwood Rise site, the sixth form offers 20 A Level subjects after launching two-years-ago.

 

Falak Tahir, 16, who achieved two grade 9s, five grade 8s, two grade 7s and one grade 5, is going onto study A Level biology, chemistry and psychology at Djanogly City Academy Sixth Form.

 

Falak, whose ambition is to go to university to study medicine, said: “I am extremely happy. I am so proud of myself. I have enjoyed the support from teachers and friends. Working hard at your studies really pays off.”

 

Hafsa Hussain, 16, whose achievements included one grade 9, two grade 8s, two grade 7s, three grade 6s and one grade 5, is also progressing to Djanogly City Academy Sixth Form to study A Level biology, chemistry and geography.

 

Hafsa, whose ambition is to become a dentist, said: “I feel very happy and proud of myself. I have enjoyed everything about Djanogly City Academy including the teachers and lessons.”

 

Gawab Ale, 16, whose achievements included two grade 9s, three grade 8s, one grade 7, two grade 6s and one grade 5, is another student who is going onto study A Level chemistry, maths and physics at Djanogly City Academy Sixth Form.

 

Gawab said: “I feel very happy and proud of the hard work that I put into my exams and it paying off. Studying at Djanogly City Academy was a very good experience. I enjoyed my time there. The teachers are all very good and supportive.”

 

Meanwhile, Riju Karthikeyan, 16, who achieved one grade 9, three grade 8s, one grade 7, three grade 6s and one grade 5, is going to college to study A Level biology, chemistry and maths.

 

Riju, who aspires to become a doctor, said: “I felt very nervous but I am extremely happy with and proud of my results. The teachers have provided support and care - they are always happy to help.”

 

Mark Mallender, Chief Executive Officer, Djanogly Learning Trust, added: “Huge congratulations to our scholars who have worked so hard to achieve their grades and a big ‘thank you’ to the staff who have supported and inspired them along the way.”

 

Djanogly City Academy, which is Ofsted graded ‘good’, has more than 1,200 scholars aged 11 to 18 years-old based at two sites on Sherwood Rise and Gregory Boulevard. 

In addition to focussing on academic success, the school provides a wide range of extra-curricular enrichment activities that develop students’ confidence and interpersonal skills. These include music, performance and sports clubs as well as other activities and trips.
