What options do you have?

BTEC

Definition

Further education qualification combining practical learning with theory.  You usually choose one subject area to focus on.

How would I study?

You will spend your time in classes and workshops, learning about your subject area.  You will be expected to study independently and may have the chance to do work experience.

Where would I study?

Further education college or some sixth forms.

How would I be assessed?

You might have a mixture of assessments including performances, presentations, group work, written tests and essays. 

A Level

Definition

Subject based qualification.  You usually choose up to 4 A Level subjects to study.

How would I study?

You will spend your time in classes for each of your subject areas.  You will also be expected to complete some study independently.

Where would I study?

Sixth forms or some further education colleges.

How would I be assessed?

You will be assessed by exams at the end of your two years of study.

T Level

Definition

Career focused qualification that combines practical work experience.  You choose one and study it for 2 years.

How would I study?

You will study in a practical way by simulating what happens in the workplace.  You will also undertake at least 45 days of work experience across 2 years.

Where would I study?

College only.

How would I be assessed?

You will be assessed through exams and a practical test.

Apprenticeship

Definition

Combines working with studying to gain skills and knowledge in a specific job.

How would I study?

You will spend 80% of your time in the work place, learning on the job and 20% of your time studying.

Where would I study?

Most of your time will be spent working and learning on the job.  Your study time will be at college, university or training centre.

How would I be assessed?

You will be assessed on the job and as part of your training.  This could include observations of your work and written or practical assessments.
